As you've surely noticed, protein has been having a moment. While anything overhyped is worth taking with a grain of salt, there are good reasons to get enough protein, and protein snacks are an ideal way to get there.

Protein helps build and repair your muscles, bones, and immune cells, plus, it plays a big role in keeping your metabolism humming and helping with weight management. And if you're active, you'll likely do better with a higher intake than the bare-minimum RDA, with many experts recommending around 1.0 to 1.6 grams per kilogram of body weight per day.

But how much protein you get is only part of the picture. It's also when you eat it that matters, with research showing that spreading your protein intake across the day can boost muscle protein synthesis (the process that helps you build and maintain muscle) by about 25% compared to loading it all at dinner. Snacks can help with that, too. 

Adding some protein packed snacks to your day is a super quick and easy way to fill gaps between meals. Research shows that high protein snacks keep hunger from creeping up and prevents those sudden urges for less-than-stellar nutrition choices better than lower protein options.

When mornings are chaotic (so, most mornings), having a grab-and-go protein option makes all the difference.

Their Popped Protein Chips have 20 grams of protein with about 4 grams of net carbs in BBQ and Nacho Cheese flavors. They're great for road trips, desk drawers, and surviving the 3 p.m. slump without falling into a bag of regular chips and losing track of time.

I Just Need a Pick Me Up

When you want something refreshing that just so happens to contain protein, these sippable options fit the bill.

Ripple Chocolate Plant-Based Protein Shake has 20 grams of plant-based protein and goes down smooth during your morning commute or post-gym errands. The Coffee version adds 100mg of caffeine for when you need protein and consciousness at the same time (HSA/FSA eligible). Biotiful High Protein Kefir Drink is another solid pick with 20 grams of protein, billions of live cultures, and a tangy chocolate flavor that gives your gut a bonus (HSA/FSA eligible).

If you want some fizz, Barebells Protein Sodas come in Sweet Cherry, Pineapple Sunrise, and Wild Strawberry, each with 10 grams of whey protein, 200mg caffeine, and no added sugar. They're lighter on protein than a shake or bar, so think of them as a fun, caffeinated protein pick-me-up rather than a full snack replacement.

And if you want something gut-friendly with a side of crunch, Three Wishes Cereal has 8 grams of protein and about 3 grams of sugar per serving, with flavors like Honey, Cocoa, and Fruity that will take you back to your childhood in the best of ways, but with far less sugar and a boost of protein.
