Steps to Distance Calculator: How Many Steps in a Mile?
Have you ever wondered how many steps are in a mile, or a 5K, or even a marathon?
The good news is, even if you only wanted to know how far it is to get to the fridge and back, Stridekick offers one of the most important and useful tools for calculating the distance you walked based on the number of steps you took, and vice versa!
It’s called the Steps to Distance calculator, shown here:

Five Simple Steps ✨
As you can see, there are five settings to input before you get your results, so let’s quickly go over each of them:
Step 1: Choose Steps to Distance, or Distance to Steps.
- Based on whichever data you currently have, and which one you’re looking to find. (If you already know both distance and steps, then I assume you wouldn’t need to be here right now!)
Step 2: Choose whether you’d prefer to use the imperial (miles) or metric system (kilometers).
- Or, I suppose you can go back and forth between both if you’re one of those weird people who know everything.
Step 3: Input your number of steps, or conversely, the distance you’d like to convert.
- This could be an amount that you already traveled, one that you’d like to calculate for the future, or a random number that just popped into your head because you forgot where you were for a second and then panicked.
Step 4: Input your height.
- You can bump it up to 6 ft. if you want, fellas, but you can’t lie to your own health.
Step 5: Input your average pace, with options spanning from a slow walk to a super fast run.
- This part is very important, as your results could change drastically depending on how long your stride is, so remember to input your pace accurately.
From there, you can calculate your results, and log it for your personal records. This can also be helpful if you need to input your steps or distance into the Stridekick app manually, which you can read more about here.
